Domestic and family violence is a pattern of abusive behaviour used by one person in an intimate relationship to gain and maintain power and control over another. This type of violence can encompass physical, emotional, psychological, coercive control, sexual, and financial abuse and can occur between current or former intimate partners, family members, or carers. The aim of domestic violence is to assert power and control over the victim. It can result in serious harm and long-lasting consequences for the victim's physical, mental, and emotional health.

Domestic and family violence is unacceptable and violates basic human rights, and it is important for victims to seek help and support from trusted individuals, organisations, and the legal system.
